DAUGHTER OF MAU MAU: A Tribute to Kenyan Struggle Veteran, Virginia Edith Wambui Waiyaki.

Wrong woman! Yes, she got pregnant. Yes, she got released. Yes, she gives birth to a half caste child. BUT! She didn’t hide the facts of her situation. She refused the victimhood visited upon her and she chose to look at the resulting child as a blessing in revealing the rot of the master colonialist against a woman. And long before rape became an NGO affair and laws passed against it, Wambui’s personal experience became the barrier breaker against a vice the world is still grappling with. That was Wambui and the British colonial masters of the day. Did she win when she sued that institution later for its crime? No. But the truth of rape as a tool of war and warring showed its ugly face. Intimidation and dehumanization among women in conflict zones came out. That it’s happening cannot be denied. Lesson.

WOMAWORDS SPECIAL: the March Experience-Past and Present!!!

INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY SPECIAL -Angels do walk among humanity, lending a hand whenever needed. Seen and unseen, the universe takes care of it's own in the cycles of the seasons. Woman, the gentle strength who bears the race of it's species. Woman, the support system that nurtures the fledgling that rules the generations of power holders. To speak of the human race in it's most diverse form is to recognize the guardian angel that not only carries the seed of humanity but also shapes it in it's initial stages to present to it's world the heros we celebrate in high, medium and lower places. A woman is the pot that suckles tomorrow by tending today. She is the creators deputy in formenting the charge that holds to count succeeding voices of men and women. Her place is the cadre of unsung heros of her specie. How any society treats it's women tells their level of spiritual guaranty. WOMAWORDS, is a platform curated by a man who recognizes the historical, cultural, social and economical injustices that has plagued the "womanrace". From the baby girl to the teenage struggling with it's identity to the mature woman whose voice has been muted by it's male partners and societal policing, WOMAWORDS seeks to raise awareness on existing gaps that hinder the full realization and positive potential for the female in living a productive life without social stigmitazation and offer where possible, mitigating measures and where not possible provide information and tried and tested methods of achieving individual and communal self positive growth. This endeavor is hoped to open dialogue on traumatizing topics into the fore like menstrual health , speaks firmly and volubly against Feelings genital mutilation and child marriages, campaign against sexual exploitation and rape, as well as encourage women to speak against other forms of gender inequalities in their societies. WOMAWORDS, while it seeks to speak for women issues, is also geared to engage the male gender for women are mothers of men and men are sons of women. This divide must be recognized and respected to avoid the gender wars that has brought us as human society to where we are now. We dedicate this journal to legendaries and luminaries of female voices of resilience, those who have gone ahead like Maya Angelo, Toni Morrison, Yvonne Vera, Bessy Head ,Greta Thurnberg,Doris Lessing, Wangari Maathai, Brenda Fassie ,and the living, the likes of G Jamie Dede's, Tsitsi Dangarembwa, Fadzayi Mahere, Jessie Majome, Thandiswa Mazwai, Hope Masike, Martina Mwanza, Njoki Ndungu, Michelle Obama, Nyaradzayi Gumbonzwanda and Opra Winfrey:A Prologue -( by NANCY NDEKE, the WOMAWORDS African Continent  Editorial Associate).

Jayitha Vannum , Our Trailblazing Storyteller.

Her words echoed in my ears. The world slowed down, everything around me started going in slow motion. I looked at her and my whole life flashed in front of me. It spiraled around me as thoughts flowed in and out of my mind. My body felt numb; I lost all the feelings on my fingertips. I could feel anger settling down in my stomach, and I could feel the despair fill up until my throat. I was falling backwards or maybe it was the drugs? Her voice ran along my body, I couldn’t hear it any longer. I loved this state of ecstasy, but she couldn’t be a part of it, she couldn’t ruin just another thing that brought me happiness. Diane had to go.

G Jamie Dedes, Versifier of Truth.

The griot in Jamie Dedes is dare –daring. The tone as accompanied with the granite rock verbiage is sarcastic but riotous. The poet cum fighter for social justice and trench soldier for political inclusion turns poetry pages into battle fields, racists are jabbed by defiant swords of satire. Poetry Spaces are poetry washed into oxymoronic fields of peace, corrupt landlords, warlords and tyrants are roasted by flames of metaphor. Dedes irony exorcise political demons and rattles the grip of economic dare-devils  as her hyperbolic versifications remind egoistic , unrepentant chauvinistic    forces ,  it’s time to balance  the state of affairs  , in villages , in drinking clubs , in religious societies  and state officialdoms . The griot is a singer of truth against segregation, against historical vagaries and political vulgar. A griot cum poet cum truth evangelist and humanitarian. Jamie Dedes is a publisher of digital poetry spaces, human rights defender and Literary Arts Projects Catalyst. Dedes is currently the official Mbizo Chirasha Exile Situation International and Press Campaign Manager – ( WOMAWORDS PRESS Chief Editor).
