Smeetha Bhoumik, India’s literary Genius!

When   grazing  through the sestina verses of this our  prolific poetic figure ,  SMEETHA BHOUMIK. You  must be sure  to  carry  a calabash of fresh coconut milk    .  Her poetry is more than  a refreshment . It  is a literary beverage . The metaphor   transfigures  and cleanses us  into a  new beings  and then  summoned  into the  holy earth   of literary redemption . A revolution!   Bhoumik’s  traverses  with forth and back within the spirit-land of word. The irony  is   the truth that spikes .Spikes that slash through the arteries of the wicked .As her pen  spews purified venom and undiluted vitriol  in her clarion for peace against war- makers and trouble -mongers.

Sand dunes and golden castles, the

towers nestled in ivy, wafts of wisdom

percolating in tender sweet melodies of

belonging – every creature finds love

and a home here! Its gold shines

soft and true, its heart so big & bright,

That it’s starry even by day, and bright

as gorgeous nebulas at night.

TheTrifid or the VelaSupernova, it shines

like a million dazzling stars with wisdom

culled in hearts full of love,

weaving bonds, there’s no dirth of!

It is earth I speak of,

her wisdom aeons old, and bright

as lightening sparks of love

streaming through our

hearts. It is earth I speak of, her wisdom

golden, her love that shines

in our lives, our homes, and shines

in our hearts.

It is earth, her bounty of

abundance and grace, her wisdom

of acceptance that is cheery & bright

welcoming all unto her, and that is our

learning – the vast openness of love.

Knowledge and learning lead to love

through wide open spaces, and shines

a light in us; it is our route map, our

beautiful destiny to chart, of

that there’s no doubt, a bright

light leading to glowing wisdom!

Tiny boats adrift on oceans of wisdom,

to learn to see the light of love

in darkness too. Such is the bright

affiliation of an age-old bond that shines

in every being, no exceptions to speak of,

that is the truth, this belonging, with ‘our’.

Love’s melody shines forth in our lives,

love’s wisdom keeps us sparkling bright

even in wild tempestuous stormy nights!

Green leaves, frozen tears in aquamarine dreams, women

surge up to a glowing light, stepping in softly to resist

age-old injustice. It is her birthright, a free of violence,

sublime dawn of oceanic hope on a wash of pink and

an undoing of the long night of deathly disease. To make

A beautiful world, she steps in softly to make peace !

Infused with hope, she has what it takes for peace:

patience, courage, strength and warmth, in all women

a characteristic norm of fair-play and justice, to make

this world a haven of peace. She knows she must resist

unfairness with all her might, lest it overpower all and

the world into dreary darkness retreat. For violence

spreads across thought-streams and terrain, violence

like wildfire consumes hearts where there’s no peace.

She knows this and she steps up her good work and

reaches out to kindred souls, to all who’d listen – women,

men, children, country-folk and city-dwellers; ” Resist”

She cries, “Resist hate, & a world of beauty we’ll make !”

A ringing roar answers her call, hundreds gather to make

her dream for all, for it is their’s too – free of violence

adorned in peace, they open up their hearts crying “Resist,

Shun violence and come with us to the altar of peace.”

A great March towards light, there’s singing and women

in bright hues of warmth add all with the ease of ‘and’ !

Bonhomie and wonder grow by day, as hearts swell and

Soar in peace, where no violence can reach.

Of this, make

What you may, but you know for sure that it is the women

Who will lead you to the path to peace, they shun violence

And yearn for peace.

Time for all to join in saying ” Resist, Resist”

Resist violence, resist injustice, resist unfairness, resist

Dark deeds. Go, each do your own thing, but come here &

Sing the song of peace.

Bring your kindness, your guitar, your love, to make

a picture of happiness, a space to reach. Of violence,

Let there be no sign, a mist lifting onto joyous women!

In a rosy ring of compassionate women who make peace,

Flew a song-bird with fluent ease

Joining their music to end violence and resist !

Letter from home to a migrant lover

Sending your way some dust from home

remember how at sunset it turned gold

when the tinkling-belled cows returned?

The trees miss you here,

and the very air

is still.

The roads,

Oh, our narrow winding roads

are listless, waiting

for known footsteps,

at every turn.

Come home.

Hark O Tree, O Flyaway Eastern Sky !
I am Shelly’s greenbul,  Sharpe’s greenbul
a mountain greenbul or a ulugulu greenbul
I am your very own bare-faced-go-away bird
a papyrus gonolek;

East coast boubou, zanzibar red bishop,
I sail on your wind,  I cry on your tree-tops,
I sing of dawn, well before dawn while it is still dark
and you are restive, you are worn,
I sing !

I sing to you of vast green Lake Nakuru
where primates swing and people dance
in joy unbound !
Masai Mara, O Masai Mara,
Do you hear me, O Masai Mara?

I fly the oceans and sail the skies
in search of that ephemeral stillnes
almost divine :
a sameness on the other side!
O Enchanted Eastern Sky, I am home.

Birds of a Feather -Song

Flying to the other side of the universe
on wings of hope
I see you

cross a river,
scale a mountain, hum a new song
with roots of trees embedded in it, shells

of magic too ! Gold dust flying in the air
with dreams you dare,
your silk

rustles in
a song;
your dance

all over the
the spreading good cheer of warmth…
