Nancy Ndeke ,the Lioness of African Poetry

Her writings are pregnant with African emotion and spiritual resonance. She writes of her kindred, WOMEN with a bold spirit and an aura of sisterly stubbornness. Her pen jives on page leaves like a rock rabbit dancing to earthly acoustics of wind ,tree branches and discordant village songs .Ndeke’s poetry is the tenor of deep but soft flowing river , the rhythm abound is undeniably scintillating. Her satire is a dance stage readers would not want to leave .You need a calabash of fresh spring water to wash down the poetry dinner of realism, metaphor and satire .Her literary dexterity is nerve blowing while her verbiage brings mediums of poesy into metaphoric trances. Ndeke’s imagery clobbers dictators, morons and rapists until they surrender into oblivion. She is a mother pan Africanist, singer of truth and mason of free speech. Welcome African Lioness to the #mypennameistrailblazer

NANCY NDEKE 2

“ WOMANITY”
O children of Eve, dancers under the moonlight fame,
Story tellers of the clan, weaving beauty of creation
With womb melodies of pain and pleasure,
Flowers that sing to the sexual thirst of creation completeness,
Behold, your smile that chugs a man’s heart to tame a house hold,
You, the song of the wet valley that bards write of,
You are the other of the one,
Without whom the complete is un-whole,
Yet, child of the makers thrifty hand,
The very soil that life thrives,
Has followed you with a dirty sneer,
Cursing the season of inner cleansing,
When the red moon,
Gushes between the pillars,
Clearing the way for a clean house,
For the next planting season
You have suffered innuendos child fair and lady lithe,
You have been marked as cursed for holding the mystery of the red flow
Holy writ has not spared you unclean terms tagging the time of the season,
Every month without fail at your best of years,
MENSTRUATIONS comes with SHAME and TABOO and DISCRIMINATION and SOCIAL STIGMATIZATION
“Women’s business” has been the other genders take
And CONFUSION and EMBARRASSMENT and MENTAL STRESS has plagued womanhood
Worse in societies with little by way of understanding
Except cultural bigotry and patriarchal biases,
Steeped in fear of the menstrual cycle and its misunderstood fables,
Girls have failed to attend classes,
Girls have run away from schools,
And worse is,
Among some structures in many,
Onset of Menstruation is the card to marry off,
And brokenness goes on, and on, and on,
Till, this “THING”
That has plagued ‘WOMANITY” for the centuries,
Life is about sex,
Sex is about the sexes and the accompanying differences,
Dance is informed by sex and sex is spiritual,
To speak of sex without menstruation is the height of hypocrisy,
MENSTRUATION is part of a rite of passage in ‘WOMANITY’

WHAT THE WORLD NEEDS,

Is less of the individual, and
More of the community, meeting as equals,
At the intersection of connectedness
The hubris,
That rules empires with iron tanks and nuclear weapons
The feel good notion,
That sets colors apart in racism,
Are months that blow evil dust on the arena of life’s rainbow
There is no joy whatsoever
In fear, in anger
With greed, with bigotry,
Peace flees,
Leaving a yawning gap for suspicion and ill wind
Pitting Nations against Nations
Led by men long bought on ideologies of divisions,
Child and man,
Especially one with weak of defense,
Tales form on the lips of the mourners,
Engendering further acrimony through succeeding generations,
A conflict simmers,
Chances are waited to visit revenge
Military powers build walls to keep peace at home
Exclusion visits drawing further divide
Inequality finds itself blooming and breeding with agonized dread,
Schemers with nothing more to lose having lost dignity
Brews of cults and injured souls group to fight
Terrorism gets named and spreads with ease
Arms dealer’s cash in arming the willing and the ready
Civil wars sprout as bigger wars spread,
Peace takes a further step back to nurse deeper wounds,
The world staggers under refugee-ism and humanitarian catastrophes
The devil has truly arrived
To take the tithe of souls brought to the shores by tidal murders
The already demonized join ranks with demons
Propaganda takes center stage to deny the obvious
Conspiracy is the tool of the paid mouth pieces of evil times
And peace becomes a myth that fled from faith pulpits
The world bows under the weight of defeat and confusion
As old wounds of exploitation meets new sponsored means of the same
Man! You are your own enemy,
Peace is not a commodity but a personal attribute
That like a child’s laughter should be infectious,
But now, in our watch,
We gravitate towards a looming disaster,
From wars of annihilation to climate change that has gone rogue
And internet, just in, to offer the dark, dark web for radicalization,
In the privacy of a sickened mind and blind followership,
Men who should know better, are either quiet or withdrawn
Or uncaring enough to ignore the signs.
Will you be counted as a peace ambassador today?
For if you do,
Then, you ARE WHAT THE WORLD NEEDS.
I do.
